The Slate Studio Safety & Emergency Guidelines
TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL GUESTS AND PERSONNEL DURING AN EMERGENCY, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING THESE GUIDELINES.
Emergency Contact Overview
Do NOT enter the studio.
Call 911 immediately.
Contact studio leadership.
IF A BREAK-IN OCCURS WHILE OCCUPIED
Prioritize personal safety — do not confront.
Move to a safe, secure area if possible.
Call 911 once safe to do so.
AFTER AUTHORITIES RESPOND
Do not touch or move anything until cleared.
Document missing or damaged items.
Change access codes / keys if required.
Fire Emergency
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Identify source if safe (leak, burst pipe, weather).
Shut off water supply if accessible and safe.
Move equipment, power strips, and cables off the floor.
Unplug electronics if there is active water contact.
ESCALATION
Contact Amory – building management immediately.
If electrical hazards are present → evacuate and call emergency services.
POST-INCIDENT
Photograph all damage.
Create a list of affected equipment.
Notify leadership.
Do not power equipment until professionally inspected.
Break-In / Theft / Suspicious Activity

Flooding / Water Damage
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Find fire extinguisher on the far right cabinet of the 101 kitchen cabinets.
Use only if the fire is small and contained.
Follow PASS:
Pull the pin
Aim at base of fire
Squeeze handle
Sweep side to side
If the fire does not extinguish quickly → evacuate immediately.
AFTER EVACUATION
Call 911.
Account for all people present.
Do not re-enter until cleared by authorities.
POST-INCIDENT
Document damage with photos/video.
Notify studio leadership.
Power Outage
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Safely shut down computers and sensitive equipment if time allows. → Power Surges should protect the PC’s.
Let the studio manager / admin know if you’re going to turn off computers if power hasn’t returned after 30 minutes. DO NOT turn off until you have go-ahead from them.
Avoid moving in dark areas unnecessarily.
Use emergency lighting if available.
IF POWER DOES NOT RETURN QUICKLY
Pause all production and events.
Communicate clearly with clients on site.
Decide on early shutdown if outage persists.
POST-INCIDENT
Check equipment for safe restart.
Medical Emergency
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Call 911 immediately.
Do not move the injured person unless required for safety.
Assign one person to meet emergency responders
IF MINOR INJURY
Use basic first-aid supplies.
Document incident.
POST-INCIDENT
Record incident details (who, what, when, where).
Notify studio leadership.
Severe Weather / Environmental Emergency
EXAMPLES
Severe storms
Extreme heat or cold
Structural risk warnings
ACTIONS
Follow local emergency alerts.
Keep people indoors and away from windows if advised.
Shut down operations if conditions pose risk.
Evacuation Protocol (Universal)
Exit calmly and quickly.
Perform headcount.
Do not re-enter until officially cleared.
Documentation & Reporting (MANDATORY)
After any emergency:
Take photos/videos if safe.
Write a brief incident summary:
Date & time
People present
What happened
Actions taken
Damage or injuries
Send email to Operations Manager / Team Lead.
Notify leadership within 24 hours.
And most importantly, enjoy the space.
